Restaurant Zigante was opened with the goal of presenting guests the possibilities of using truffles in culinary art and it is the first Croatian restaurant specialized for dishes with truffles. Located in the very centre of Livade.

 

 

Throughout the year the restaurant is offering a carefully designed menu based on fresh truffles, created primarily in accordance with the harvest season of Istrian truffles.

 

 

The restaurant chefs and sommeliers are holders of many international awards for their work, and amongst others, in 2005 Zigante won the first place in the category “Good Croatian restaurants”.

In addition to the unique menu, the restaurant Zigante also offers the organization of business and family lunches and dinners as well as tastings. Adjoining to the restaurant, in a renovated Istrian stone house, are the modern equipped four-star Zigante rooms for a comfortable vacation in a typical Istrian rural place.

Now you can see for yourself that the search for truffles is a demanding work but at the same time it can be fun…especially when a workday is finished with pockets filled with truffles

As a part of promoting Istrian truffles, Zigante organizes guided truffle searches. Group searches (up to 30 persons) in the Motovun forest, only one kilometre away from restaurant Zigante, are led by experienced truffle hunters with specially trained tracking dogs. During 1 hour visitors are instructed about the basics of truffle hunting and the procedure of searching for truffles, and the truffle hunters sometimes reveal some of the secret locations abundant with truffles.

The international gourmet exhibition Zigante Truffle Days is organized every year

Zigante Truffle Days are organized in Livade, in the very heart of the river Mirna valley and near the Morovun forest famous for its truffles, and they are lasting for seven weekends – every Saturday and Sunday from the end of September till the beginning of November.

 

What is being offered?

Prepared especially for you during Zigante Truffle Days:

Various exhibitions of white and black fresh truffles and more than 50 various Zigante truffle products. Many of delicacies with truffles can be tasted and bought at the exhibition.

Promotion of autochthonous Istrian products such as prosciutto, cheese, olive oils, honey and spirits from top local producers. All products are offered at promotional prices.

Opulent international wine fair on which many winemakers from all over Croatia as well as from neighbouring countries are participating. All premium wines can be tasted and bought at promotional prices.

Unforgettable search for truffles in the Motovun forest. While driving on the “truffle path” to the forest, the guide informs the guests about truffle hunting in Istria. Upon arriving to the forest, the guests are enjoying the unforgettable experience of searching for truffles accompanied by an licenced truffle hunter and his/her tracking dogs.

Exciting culinary show in which many domestic and foreign top chefs are preparing favourite specialties with truffles which can be tasted.
